Been thinking a lot about the supremely paradoxical balancing act it takes just to be your Self: balance between receptivity and creativity, between release and expansion, between action and doing absolutely nothing. It requires the double-sightedness of regarding yourself as forever a work-in-progress, yet one that is nevertheless always already a perfect expression of your unique life force. It is understanding that you are an infinite, eternal being whose very nature is change.
It is ultimately balancing between relentless seeking and being at home exactly where you are. To do this well requires absolute conviction in your own supreme authority (“I have all the answers I need within”) AND the empty wisdom of Beginner’s Mind (“I know nothing”). Whatever you think you know about yourself, whatever you have fought hard to discover, even just a moment ago—that is already Old News. Squeeze out the sponge of the ego and open to discovering something new and utterly surprising. It will feel like remembering. This is how you evolve and expand.
How does one embody all this? The three divine commandments that guide me are:
