What is a quality Akashic Record reading? 1/6

For reasons that will become clearer in later posts, accuracy in Akashic Record readings is not so straightforward. Sometimes clients compliment me by proclaiming that so much of what I brought through is “accurate” because it confirmed other readings they’ve received from psychics, tarot readers, or astrologers, etc. I always find it interesting when that comes up, but frankly, it doesn’t really factor into my own self-assessment. Although no client so far has protested that my reading contradicted other readings, if I did receive that feedback, it would certainly give me pause, but it would not automatically lead to self-indictment.

I don’t want to seem dismissive of the notion of “accuracy,” because Akashic Record readers trade in truth. In later posts I will treat the matter of truth and accuracy more deeply (and also the habit of self-indictment, for all you aspiring intuitive readers out there!), but for now let’s table that and focus on quality. Because ultimately it is quality that I aim for, rather than accuracy, because when it comes to energy readings, accuracy is a moving target.

In the interest of transparency, I want to share what I mean by quality by going through the elements that I look for when it comes to assessing my own readings. Here I will limit myself to listing these characteristics with brief parenthetical descriptions. Then in later posts I’ll explain how each aspect contributes to the quality of a reading.

Other as Mirror of Self

The tools I share are really effective in helping you shift your energy in one way or the other. Some are really handy (many of my meditation tools can be used while you’re out walking to the train or are actually riding the subway), while others require more quiet and reflection. Other as Mirror of Self falls into the latter category. It is worth the work, however, because in my opinion (and from experience bringing it repeatedly into Dreamers & Schemers), this is one of the most incisive ways to identify your growth edge (which is another way to say “your issues”), and work through your issues from an angle that goes beyond the usual fodder of talk therapy.

In other words, this is not just about identifying your wounded inner child and blaming it on some external cause, but taking for your ALL emotional reactions. This might sound hard or yucky because it’s a lot easier to blame other people for how you’re feeling, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find this to be a tremendously useful and empowering life skill!

To be perfectly honest, learning this process was no cake walk, and I experienced a lot of tough love from my Akashic Records learning to do this. I spent months in resistance, clinging to my anger and self-righteousness, until one day something shifted in me and I experienced the transformative power of this habit of mind. This is a habit, so it gets stronger with practice. When it becomes second nature, you will ask yourself why you spent so much time suffering over something you actually had control over: your own emotional reactions.

If you’re feeling resistance now, take a moment to soften and open yourself to something new. Yes, we’ve all heard some variation of the old chestnut that you can’t control others, you can only control your reaction to them. Sure, you’re thinking, easier said than done. But let me break down the process into manageable steps so you can see that this is actually easier than you think.  (more…)

“Show me who I am” [ancestors + solar plexus meditation]

One of my favorite sources of tools is the Akashic Records, since they come tailor-made for the recipient. This tool is one I actually channeled for a client, but as it is often the case in readings, there was something in it for me, as well. I felt resonance in my body as I was communicating it to my client, so I filed it away as something to practice for myself. I love it because it is extremely simple, but incredibly powerful.

The purpose of this tool is to give you the experience of simultaneously feeling the support of your ancestors and your own power. To do this, you turn inward and feel your personal power in your solar plexus and feel the support of your ancestors at your back. (The Records said, “Your ancestors have your back.”) After some practice just imagining this, I viscerally felt this one day as I was practicing “on the go.”

My most powerful experience using this tool, however, was during my plant medicine retreat in Peru. I was really struggling to make it through the weeks with a healthy sense of self intact and woke up crying in the middle of the night on the eve of the last ceremony of the week. In the face of my shadow, I was wracked by fear, doubt, anguish, and self hatred, and I had no idea how to step forward from all that negativity. And then it occurred to me that I had read of countless people in similar situations turning to prayer, and how that became a miraculous turning point for them.

If it can happen for them, why not for me? (more…)

Integration

For the last two months I’d been wondering why integration has been such a challenge for me this year. I experienced this most acutely in my Akashic Records work and in my aerial work and training. I knew I was making progress, but it didn’t look like the sort of progress I was expecting, and all the new skills and strength I was developing didn’t seem to be coming together into a coherent whole.

Yesterday, as I was preparing myself to do work in the Records, it hit me: All this learning around integration keeps coming to me because I set the intention, at the beginning of the year, to integrate all that I had learned last year. I had also set a second intention to help others integrate their work with me into their daily lives.

Of course integration is the work in front of me now. I did a ton of learning last year, I’m doing a ton of learning now, and it takes a long time for all that to settle into body, mind, and heart.

From my Question Journal practice, Akashic Records work, and in the context of leading Dreamers & Schemers, I know very well that I teach what I need to learn, I learn what I want to teach, and I always get what I ask for. The gifts rarely look as I expect them to, but those are the best kind. Why did I torture myself by falling into expectation, attachment, and doubt?

For a bit more insight I drew a soul card and was faced with this image: (more…)

Connecting with your ancestors

There are countless ways to connect with your ancestors, and I encourage you to explore other methods and eventually come up with your very own way(s) of doing so, but here I offer a brief guided visualization exercise that I adapted from my own work in the Akashic Records, where I first became acquainted with my ancestors. (Note: We will not be going into your Akashic Records for this exercise.)

Preparatory tips

Before we jump into the meditation, let me emphasize the importance of beginner’s mind. In order to get the most from your experience, you will be best served by quieting your critical mind and holding no expectations. Whatever words I use,  do your best not to conceptualize those terms so narrowly. Instead, open yourself to the experience emerging from your subconscious. You may be surprised at what pops up, and that’s a good thing!

This means that when I say a word such as “ancestors,” don’t automatically assume that they are people who were related to you by blood. They may be spiritual ancestors, and / or they may not even take human form. You may meet just one ancestor or several, and you may get a sense of different entities or simply know them as a collective. They may “appear” before you, or you may sense them anywhere else around you (e.g., beside you, above you, behind you, “at 10 o’clock,” etc.).

I also recommend paying attention to how the energy of your ancestors and the knowing they have to offer comes to you. Are you highly visual? Do you hear their words? Or do you sense something more ineffable?

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t seem to be “getting much.” As with any relationship, you may feel a connection instantly, or it may take a bit more time to develop a deeper connection. Remember: the connection is always there. It’s just a matter of being receptive to it and understanding how this works for you.

Asking productive questions

[Again, for my Dreamers & Schemers]

The practice of keeping a question journal has transformed my approach to life in so many ways. Not only does it strengthen my ability to open to receive, but at its very root, this work supports my intention of approaching life as eternal inquiry.

I used to think it was a terrible thing that I was full of questions, because to me having lots of questions about my life meant I lived in confusion, lack of knowledge, and disconnection. But now I see what I have always known in my academic/professional life: It isn’t about having the right answers, but knowing how to ask productive questions. (more…)

My question journal comes alive

[This post is for my Dreamers & Schemers, who expressed an interest in learning about my question journal practice at our last meeting.]

One of the lovely outgrowths of my Akashic Records practice is my question journal. It began simply as a way to keep track of the questions I wanted to bring to my Records. I started it on my cellphone because I don’t make a habit of carrying my Akashic Records journal around with me, and I needed a handy way of jotting down questions as they occurred to me through the day. Earlier this year, however, I noticed that my question journal had taken a life of its own. It had come alive for me in the sense that I would jot down questions, and in a span of days or weeks, I would get an answer in the course of my daily life.

Two recent examples illustrate how this can happen in vastly different ways. (more…)
