We who work for the benefit of young people dream not of fame and fortune, but fulfillment. And yet so many of us end up exhausted, resentful, and disillusioned while following our passion. Where did it all go wrong? “I love my young people but…” “They don’t pay me enough to…” I’ve heard this enough (and said this enough myself) to know that these are symptoms of a systemic problem. But having spent over half this year recovering from burnout, I’ve learned that if I want to engage in truly transformative work, I first have to work on transforming myself by paying more than lip service to self care.
On Sunday, November 22, I invite you to join a group of like-minded professionals for an afternoon of collaborative learning and sharing on self care in the context of youth service. Your facilitators, Steph Cowling, Clarissa Mendez, and Ysette Guevara, have designed this complimentary half-day event to support colleagues who aspire to mindful living and holistic youth work, but find themselves sacrificing their own wellness along the way.
In the course of one afternoon, you will learn to:
-
Find a point of balance between caring for yourself and serving others
-
Craft rituals and routines that support your well being
-
Deepen your understanding of your inner processes and emotions so that self care decisions come easily
-
Attune to your body so you can recognize outworn beliefs and come into deeper alignment with your inner truth
As a bonus, you will also receive an invitation to beta test the third version of Game Plan, which will help integrate these tools and lessons into your daily life in a playful way.
